CALL: Research into living conditions at holiday parks in the eastern Netherlands, participants wanted

Are you or do you know someone who lives on a holiday park or campsite in Gelderland or Overijssel? For research into living conditions on holiday parks and campsites, we would like to get in touch with you!

In the Netherlands, more and more people live in campsites or holiday parks. In 2024, it was according to the CBS to almost 60,000 people who were registered at a holiday address, but this is not the total number, as there are also many residents who are registered somewhere other than the holiday address where they actually live.

Residents of holiday parks or campsites often face serious housing insecurity. For example, they often have little or no rental protection, the rent is unaffordably high or they are suddenly evicted from their home without notice by the municipality or the campsite owner.

Yet, little is known about this type of housing. What exactly are the problems that residents encounter? How did they end up where they live? What is the relationship between residents and owners/operators of the holiday parks? In existing research into housing insecurity, campsites and holiday parks are unfortunately often left out of sight, because in many cases researchers only focus on large cities.

That is why BPW Oost member Gijs started research for his master's thesis into the occupancy of holiday parks and campsites in the eastern Netherlands. For this purpose, he is looking for people who currently live on a holiday park or campsite in Gelderland or Overijssel, and who want to share their experiences with this. Participation in the research is confidential, and consists of an interview of approximately 1.5 hours at a location of the resident's own choosing.

Are you or do you know someone who lives on a holiday park or campsite in Gelderland/Overijssel and would like to share your experiences? Or do you have questions about this research? Contact Gijs (gijs.wortelboer@ru.nl)!
