Stop the rent explosion! Why we fight for lower rents:
In 2025, tenants will again face huge rent increases:
🏠 +5% in the social sector and for rooms
🏠 +7.7% in the mid-range rental market
🏠 +4.1% in the private sector
While our wages have remained low for years, rents have skyrocketed. A quarter of tenants already live below the poverty line, and many are barely making ends meet. With this policy, we are perpetuating inequality, insecurity of existence and the housing crisis. We demand lower rents!
Politicians continue to present tenants with the bill for a housing crisis they themselves have caused. While housing corporations and landlords act like profit-hungry companies, we are forced to cut back on basic needs to pay our housing costs.
We have listed 19 reasons why we are fighting for lower rents. Join us, take action and refuse the rent increase! Read the full article on our websiteTenants who participate in the campaign also recently made their voices heard on the TV program Kassa. You can watch it again here.

Local information and action meetings WWDH
Locally, more groups of tenants are also taking action. Curious about what is being organised in your neighbourhood? Or do you want to contribute to the housing struggle yourself? During these meetings, we will discuss the practical aspects, refusing the rent increase, the step-by-step plan and other ways to organise or demand lower rents. Ask your questions or pick up free posters and flyers to get your neighbourhood and neighbours involved in the housing struggle. Also let us know what the proposed rent increase means for you via this survey.
More and more local groups of tenants are taking action against the rent increase! Information and action meetings are being organised throughout the Netherlands. During the action meetings we will discuss the practical implementation of the step-by-step plan and the refusal, how to become active in the housing struggle and what else you can do to demand lower rents. There is also room to ask questions about the action and there is enough printed material available to pick up for free and distribute locally in your neighbourhood. Below you will find a list of the times and locations confirmed so far.

National demonstration:
RENT DOWN!
On May 10 at 2:00 PM, the housing movement will demonstrate on Domplein in Utrecht for lower rents. We are fed up with the annual rent increases! After the unprecedented rent increases last year, we can expect significant increases again this year. A huge rent explosion awaits all tenants.
Tenants and home seekers are being exploited to the last cent and the government simply allows it. From minister Mona Keijzer to local politics: the interests of landlords come first in all of them. The government must invest in democratic public housing. Everyone is affected by this housing crisis. Now is the time to do something about it!
Together we can take action for lower rents and against the housing crisis. Together we fight for rent reduction, housing security, a say and public housing, against homelessness, poor maintenance and rogue landlords.

Call on your tenants' organization to resist the upcoming rent increase!
Send our standard letter
The mega rent increases in 2025 are just around the corner, and most corporations and other landlords plan to implement the maximum rent increase. Many tenants and tenant associations are not happy about this, in times of increasing existential uncertainty. Corporations often do not listen to these concerns, and tenant associations struggle with the power position of the landlord in the negotiations about the rent increase. Many tenant organizations are not yet aware of the (legal) possibilities to refuse the rent increase, with the step-by-step plan of Wij Weigeren de Huurverhoging. Even worse, many accept the rent increase without critical questions or form of protest. The first profit is therefore already in informing the tenant organizations. We have made this easy by drawing up a standard letter that you as a tenant can send to your tenant organization yourself.
