Rotterdam: discussion and screening of the film Precaristas

BPW Rotterdam invites you to a film screening and discussion about Precaristas, a documentary about the struggle for access to housing, by residents and members of the Gran Canaria Tenants Union. This film is an inspiration to us and offers elements for militancy, proposals for action and experiences to think about for our current housing struggle in the Netherlands based on tenant self-organization and solidarity.

Update: link to the movie: here and subtitles ✌️

Below is a short summary of the film:

A documentary about the struggle of the Anarchist Federation and the Tenants Association of Gran Canaria. The first of many self-organized unions born from below, in neighborhoods and cities throughout the state, from the struggle for access to housing, stopping evictions, with mass squats, relocation of families or on farms acquired through transfers semi-informal with property (hence the term precarious), but always defended with the neighborhood union action. Anarchist housing experiments that have responded to the limited role of island governments, trying to unite and expand a popular movement by providing for basic needs. With a hybrid audiovisual language, between the journalistic, documentary and experimental genres, the central story is constructed through an intimate approach to families and is complemented by the voices of different political, business, academic and legal actors on the island. In the story there is also room for an invasion of the tourist dimension of Gran Canaria (34% of the GDP), examining the impact and relationship of this economic monoculture on housing. A self-produced documentary that has had the collaboration of communication collectives such as La Directa or Bauma and with a soundtrack by artists such as Silvia Tomas Trio, the rap group Resiliencia and the DJs Mash Masters.
