Workshop 2.Dh5 | Poldered: what does the housing struggle movement do?

SUN 2 March, 13:30 - 14:45, Ru Paré, Amsterdam | The already serious housing crisis is only getting worse. Rents and house prices continue to rise, and the lack of affordable housing is increasing. We now have a government that only wants to serve the interests of the real estate sector and home buyers, and mainly offers scapegoat politics and repression for those who disagree. The opposition in parliament seems toothless and powerless.

Many social organizations and movements pretend that we still live in the times of the welfare state and the polder model. But those times are over and the polder model is now being actively blown up by the right-wing rulers. Time for a different strategy, you might say.

There are fortunately all kinds of groups active in trying to tackle housing problems, and that on all levels. From direct action against homelessness and eviction, through fighting against rent increases, to enforcing different policies. People from some of these organizations are mentioned in this workshop brought together to vision to share with us about their strategy.

The workshop is organized by the Bond Precaire Woonvormen, ism GlobalInfo.nlIn addition to the BPW, representatives of the platform Residential uprising, the Amsterdam Tenants AssociationWe Refuse the Rent Increase, It Street Consulate and Freeview participate in the panel. The discussion will be moderated by Mellisa Koutouzis (Housing protest/Amsterdam Tenants Network (HNA)). In a second part of the workshop we will all discuss how we can work on initiatives that we can support together. There are already some proposals in the making…
