Housing Happening.

On Sunday 17 June from 13:00 to 17:00, the Utrecht Group organizes We Want Living space a Housing Happening. She previously conducted, together with the BPW, a camping action for more affordable housing with housing security for (international) students. The Bond Precaire Woonvorm is also participating and calls on everyone to come too.

What is a Housing Happening? A fusion of politics, art and culture. The Housing Happening turns the complex and multifaceted problem of the Utrecht housing crisis into tangible stories from real people. Join us for art exhibitions, real stories, delicious food and live music, as well as for discussion and building solutions for the lightning-fast commodification of housing.

There are real alternatives to increasing gentrification and the “free market” that is pushing countless tenants below the poverty line and leaving many residents out on the streets. At the Housing Happening you will see and hear more about these alternatives!

At the heart of the Housing Happening is the realization that the housing crisis extends beyond the tenant who has already slept on six different floors in six months, or the student who stays up all night trying to find a room before their short-term contract expires. The housing crisis is also manifesting itself in personal relationships that suffer from the effects of precarious living, difficulties at work and school from increasingly long commutes to the gentrified city center, and threats to the mental and physical health of our generation.

The endless revolving door of precarious living must be stopped, but in September the problem will only get worse: thousands of new students will again become victims of the housing crisis. Join us to say: this far and no further! Show your solidarity with all who are forced to live in unacceptable housing, to watch their communities be broken up, to sign exploitative housing contracts. Even if you don't belong to that group right now - you could just be next.

Housing Happening: a brand new way of discussing politics.

What is a Housing Happening? A collision between politics, art and culture, the Housing Happening distils an amorphous, multifaceted issue like the Utrecht housing crisis into tangible stories. Join us for artistic exhibitions, real stories, fresh food, and live music, as we discuss and build solutions against the rapid commodification of housing.

There exist real alternatives to the increasing gentrification and “way of the market” that is pushing countless tenants below the poverty line and forcing the eviction of tenants right across the world. Throughout the day you will see and hear all about these!

At the center of the Housing Happening is the realization that the housing crisis extends beyond the renter who's slept on 6 different floors in 6 months, or the student who stays up at night, trying to find a place to live after their short term contract expires . The housing crisis is expressed in personal relationships strained by precarious living, failing commitments to work and school caused by ever-expanding commutes to gentrified city centers, and our generation's debilitated mental and physical health.

The constant revolving door of precarious living must be stopped, but in September, the problem will only deepen. Join us to put your foot down, and express your solidarity with all those who are forced into sub-standard housing, broken communities and exploitative contracts. Even if you aren't affected today, tomorrow, it could be you.
