City mate and Anti-Squat put families on the street
Due to years of postponement of restructuring in the Parooldriehoek in Amsterdam East, five flats with social housing have now been withdrawn from regular rental for ten years. Housing corporation Stadgenoot now wants to evict about 90 anti-squatters, who first lived there under temporary lease contracts, to make room for students. The anti-squat residents, including some families, refuse to leave because the houses will not be demolished in the next five years. The Amsterdam student association ASVA calls on students not to respond to the housing offered in the Parooldriehoek.
